Deep Snow and Raptors

The snow is very deep up here in the north…over 3 feet deep. This makes it difficult for many raptors to ontain mice. This is the time you see Barred Owls hanging out near feeders a lot. If you catch mice in your house, toss the bodies near the feeders so the starving raptors can scavenge. Scavenging by raptors does occur if food is scarce or the young birds are not proficient at catching their prey.
